Nooks

I love nooks in houses, I would have one in every room if my husband let me, he thinks nooks are weird.
He does love bay windows, thats another post, my bay window obsession..

I think children especially love nooks.
So I thought Id post some of my favorite nooky pictures.
Enjoy

Broochy Bouquet

Sooooooooooo Beautiful!

I personally think there is nothing better than fresh flowers.. until now, I think this is so stunning, and it doesnt fade or die, Talk about an heirloom, can you imagine!
Also for brides who have hayfever.. or, for brides that just want something different, but still inspired and delicious this is the perfect solution.

Even better can imagine if this was made from brooches you had collected (asked for a donation) from Grandmothers, Aunts, relatives, now that would make it so special.

sigh

The Long Table

The boys and I are off today on a picnic.
Such beautiful weather at the moment, we are going to soak up the sun.
I love long tables, long lunches, good wine, good friends.
These pictures inspire me to actually have dinner parties more, I dont really have them unless its a Holiday or birthday celebration. Otherwise its more a barbie or we go to a resturant so Im going to plan a nice fancy long lunch on a pretty long table for my friends.

Yum.

Closet Crush

M. is talking of bashing down our old house and building on the site, the lure (that almost has me) is I would get a dressing room..... for. ever. I have wanted one of these, I am NOT a hoarder with anything, Im a real chucker, but clothes and shoes I cant part with, I have things I am never, ever going to wear again, Actually I might take a picture of the pink fluffy raver jacket I wore at 18 (then you will belive me, its never getting worn again) but I cant part with it, I have soooo many dresses, I love frocks and shoes, I think I own maybe 4 pairs of jeans and 2 other pairs of pants and the rest of my clothes are skirts and dresses.
Shoes, I stopped counting at over 100.. ( nost of them are in boxes in the shed) crazy. Anyway - the thought of all my beloved shoes and frocks having their own special room... makes me giddy...enough that I googled dreamy closets and dressing rooms .....eeek... but dont tell M. this.

Mariah Carey's shoes.... even more reason to dislike her.

Nikki Hilton's dressing room - Stylish.

Kimora Lee Simmons - I love her style, she is so cute.

Rachel Zoo - I feel let down by her closet - but I love her so much I will get over it,
Not so keen on the way it looks, but will have the contents in a heartbeat, Her style is right on my radar.
Love it!

Paris Hilton's dressing room.
A-MA-ZING
Yes, Please, bring on the bulldozer.

Rainbow Day April 2010

I just can't wait for April, Hopefully we can get on the track to make a difference.

On Friday 30th April 2010, Rainbowland Autism Services Inc. will be hosting its inaugural AUTISM RAINBOW DAY as part of its global autism awareness campaign.

On Autism Rainbow Day, we are urging businesses, schools and social groups from all over the world to help raise awareness (not money) for autism by wearing different colored T-Shirts that represent the colors of the rainbow. A one page information sheet will be available for download on our website in April 2010. We ask that in lieu of donations, people simply read the information sheet. (There will be a facility to make donations on our website for those people who would like to make a contribution towards future awareness campaigns, or you could raise money for your local autism group.)

At Rainbowland Autism Services, we believe that the lives of individuals living with autism should be respected and celebrated by the entire community. Without the amazing gifts that autistic people give to the world, we would not have the same level of innovation and creativity we have today. People with autism deserve the respect and support of their communities to help them achieve their best and where possible, live meaningful and independent lives.

We also feel strongly about the lack of support and essential services many people living with autism and their families experience on a daily basis. Parents and carers are more times than not pushed to the limits trying to manage the medical complications that can present in their child with autism. All too many carers are so badly sleep deprived that it is equivalent to torture, while at the same time living lives of social isolation because the general public are quick to judge a child with autism’s perceived ‘bad’ behavior because they understand nothing or very little about the condition.

With some recent studies suggesting that as many as 1 in 64 have autism and others using figures like 1 in 160, the situation is clear….. something has to be done NOW. Much work MUST be done to help young people with autism reach their potential, autistic adults have meaningful lives that are not in isolation from the community and to help families cope with the often extreme demands that having a child with autism places on them, through no fault of the child.

As the parent of three children on the autism spectrum, I am clear in my mind about the following: The parents/carers of children with autism love their children unconditionally and for who they are regardless of the daily challenges. People with autism don’t want to be cured, but want to be accepted and recognized by the community at large for their individual gifts, talents and the contributions they could and do make to society. The parents/carers are left to resolve the medical problems associated with autism, when their plight should be supported by much better public services, which includes medical professionals who can recognize and appropriately TREAT the adverse medical symptoms of autism in a child. And lastly….. every child with autism deserves the human right to an appropriate education.

With the right amount of autism awareness, we can start turning the current situation around. So, we need your help to make Autism Rainbow Day a global success. Help us by spreading the word and getting prepared for Autism Rainbow Day by asking your school, business or community group to take part.

HAPPY RAINBOWS,

52 weeks (week 1.7)

So, remember the bit where I said some of the weeks in my 52 week year could look as dull as dry toast, yeah, about that, thats where week 1.7 comes in. I had no camera more than half the time.
It was the week where we caught up with lovely friends..

I think a list would be good at this point, as that was probably the most interesting thing I have to report. so the start of 2010 offered...

No camera
A trip up the river (motel in thunder/lightening storm in NYE) we had a black out from 8pm-2am very cool actually.
Eating lots of bad, naughty 'sometimes' food - most of the time.
Children eating lots of 'kids meals' have mercy, I hate those things.
Darling husband home from work for a while = bliss + mess
I fed the children husband's chilli bowl instead of the non chilli one I made for them, somehow I had a processing problem in my brain (dont you hate those) and got the pots mixed up, children not happy.
Very hot weather, revolting. hot, hot, hot.
Still I made cupcakes.. delightful little orange cake ones.
Koala's get hot to, we had a poor old chappy sitting at the bottom of the tree up the road feeling very sorry for himself.
Took lots of Polaroid pictures, not that they turned out well, at all!
Chucked out my mother in laws present to the children (a jar of chubba chups) who gives kids that for a present?.. so even now I feel guilty, I had to send the to the soulo.
I try (but failed) to sprout seeds in my new sprout machine, I will try again this week, but a glass jar so far does a better job.
Had a good laugh when I found out my Nanna (who lives in QLD) who I never see, I think the last time was 3 and a bit years ago, anyway - she is in Adelaide for 2 weeks babysitting my Aunties DOG!!!.. any chance of seeing your Grandchilden or Great Gran-kids, yeah..how about just for a coffee...?? nup.. Thanks for the random DNA.
Ate even more crap than the week before.. (next week will be better, Im back on the wagon baby)
Watched the Jonas Brothers movie about 3 times.... damn the hot weather.
Cleaned the house lots.
Walked lots... but as I said, ate even more.

There are many, many more mundaine things I could add to this list and probably more pictures but I wont, I  hope next week brings more action and less of nothingness.

Smitten with Swedish

I think why I love Swedish Style so much, is that not only does it hold a lot of white (and yeah, I have a thing for white) but a few other key factors are how much natural light they love in their interiors.. there nothing better than natural light, its just so well,  natural and light..ha!

Another thing is that I think it works so well in Australia and with our lifestyle.
its simple, elegant but relaxed.

I know a lot of interiors over the past 10 years have become very cookie cutter and I hate to say it but sterile, its just not my cup of tea, while i can appricate the look, my kids with their vegemite on toast dont match it., I really never understood the inspiration of dark wood with a random apple in the middle of a large dish on a table, I prefer flowers simple or abundant, I dont like clutter, but I like cosy, I have to live in a fresh and clean look for me this style is perfect.
Swedish style interiors are becoming more and more popular. It’s a look that combines refined style with a casual appearance that seems to have universal appeal.

I wont go on (you know I could)... here are some pictures for you your veiwing pleasure.

face it, who dosent like it when the dog matches the sofa. perfection.

Enjoy

ps- my '52 weeks' post is coming tommorrow. almost a week late, gotta love my new years passion .. or not.

My Catherine Martin Crush

Here is look inside the home of Australian production designer Catherine Martin and Baz Luhrman

Oh. My. God. It's Lavish, Amazing!!!! affordable to us mere mortals.. erm. no.
I can hear the cash registers cha-chinging from here, but I still die and go breifly to Interior Heaven (tell me there is such a place) when I see these pics, I had to share.

Catherines range of homewares including a wallpaper range for Porters Painters, and a range for Designer Rugs are so beautiful, she is such a talent.

Im not sure I would decorate my home like this, its sooo WOW, but they look incredible in her stunning home. So rich, in the deep yummy way. I also love the black gloss finish she has painted on the architraves and doors, fireplace etc... bold and so effective. Im not that brave, but Im happy to look at the pictures much more and draw whatever inspiration I can.

Eat that Florence Broadhurst.

I am saving my pennys for this rug. I love it so much for my bedroom. Would make a nice birthday present. Hint hint!
